•Handicaped toilets are for any people with handicaps not just those in a wheelchair. People with stomas need access to a sink right there. Normally constructed people would have a fit if you started wiping your stoma at a normal open sink in full view. you have every right to use the toilet and should not allow someone with an attitude to stop you. Personally I would have just told the woman when she persisted that I needed to clean my colostomy and so needed a sink to hand. If she had still persisted then instead of calling her names I would have smiled sweetly and said that she should be gratefull that she could use it as she was obviously mentally as well as physically handicaped and then walk away.
•Hi, we had a similar problem last month my daughter is 13 and has an ileostomy.we were on her first outing since her surgery,i had to ask for a key they rudely told me to use the “normal”ones i told her it was for my daughter and she looked her up and down and said their was no need for her to use it i also reacted badly as she continued to refuse to open it,eventually after lots of words were exchanged i demanded she opened it after calling her a rude and ignorant human being. We both found the whole episode upsetting.(this was in a macdonnalds)I did say to her that just because she had the use of her legs this did not make her any less in need for these facilites.
